The demands and expectations of nursing staff have dramatically increased over recent years, however the support needed to balance this out, is unfortunately lacking – as you well know.
Granted, some places are providing token gestures of a lunchtime class such as yoga, or offering traditional ‘old school’ stress management workshops.
However, new science is showing us that unfortunately neither of these have any real impact to help nurses cope on a day-to-day basis, and do not create a lasting change for stress, anxiety and depression. There are many reasons for this, but the main reason is because momentary relaxation is not the same as biochemical regulation of the body – which drives the stress response.
In Northern Ireland, we have a 25% higher rate of stress than the rest of the UK, with women experiencing stress 50% more than men. As I have personally transformed my stress, anxiety and depression, after severely suffering for a five-year period, I am passionate about helping other women do the same, especially those in key roles such as nursing, who create such a positive impact in our larger society.
Over the past few months, I have been trying to offer affordable and accessible workshops and courses to the NHS (based on new science), which would be free for all nursing staff, however I am disappointed to say that the enthusiasm or ability to look after the physical, mental and emotional health of their staff is somewhat missing.
Therefore, I am now offering private, low-cost workshops directly to nursing staff who feel they can benefit from calming, controlling and curbing the stressful overwhelm that their daily job brings, so they can avoid the looming burnout, cope much better in work, and thrive in their family life.
The Overcome the Overwhelm Workshop shows you cutting-edge scientific techniques that are simple to use in busy daily life, to help you transform out of stress, so you can significantly improve your health and boost your happiness!
These amazingly powerful techniques have been developed by the HeartMath® Institute (a non-profit research organisation dedicated to stress), and I am very grateful and honoured to be one of the first certified and licensed HeartMath® Coaches in the UK & Ireland, and the first to deliver workshops of this kind in Northern Ireland.
Recent scientific studies have uncovered a lot of unknowns about stress, anxiety and depression, with one major factor being identified as the complex role that the heart plays.
For example, the 40,000 'brain cells' it has means that:
- Your heart initiates information
- Your heart has memory
- Your heart sends more information TO your brain than it receives FROM it
Research shows your heart can literally store stress in the cells, which can lead to physical illness, lack of mental clarity, and blocked emotional health.
We all need a healthy level of stress, but unfortunately the majority of nurses have now tipped over into toxic stress, anxiety and depression. Nurses are running on empty, but still expected to keep going, and give more! We are human, we all have a limit before prolonged stress is severely detrimental to physical, mental, emotional, energetic, and social health.
The impact of sustained stress not only impacts each individual nurse, but it also impacts those around her including colleagues, patients, family and friends.
I really do not want to see dedicated nurses suffer any longer just because they do not have access to this new science and simple techniques that could transform their lives! It goes without saying that the system needs changing, but until that can happen, this workshop will provide you with the most up to date knowledge and techniques to really start combatting the overwhelm, so you can look after your own health, as well as those around you.
The two hour workshop will help you understand how to:
- Control your biological stress to prevent toxic build up
- Release the stress, negative memory and blocked energy from the cells in your body
- Extend your life span (by influencing something on your chromosomes called telomeres)
This is done by achieving a measurable state called Heart-Brain Coherence.
Coherence is the beautiful state of a regulated and resilient Autonomic Nervous System, with balanced frequencies between the brain and the heart.
This is different to relaxation, yoga or meditation, because it's psychophysiological.
The Overcome the Overwhelm Workshop consists of:

In an ideal world, the system would be changed, or at the very least, employers would be keen and able, to offer such opportunities to their staff to help address their stress, but unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be the case at the moment. And as with all new science, it will take time for this new research to filter down into the mainstream NHS services and messaging around stress, anxiety and depression.
